Richard Jewell, a security guard who found a bomb planted at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, was suspected and then cleared of planting the bomb himself, and who sued multiple media companies on allegations of libel, died of kidney failure, today, at the age of 44.

May he rest in peace.

  1. I still think the press has been relatively unapologetic about that whole thing. Mostly, it just blames "the media" or "the press," as if it's reporting from Prague.
And if anyone does take any responsibility, it's couched in a great big noble sense of entitlement for doing so followed by the implication that they didn't have as much to do with it as some other media outlets who are sorrowfully unwilling to take any responsibility.

Wikipedia says he got to be the grand marshal of a parade in Carmel, Indiana, a few years ago, which, right and wrong, was probably the greatest moment of his life.
